FOSA Presentation at the Millstream Farm

FOSA members Anthony Gambardella and Tom Ford met with an engaging, energetic middle school class at the Millstream Farm (Montessori School, New Hartford).

The students were given a brief overview of lithic materials used and biface types produced by the Indians of Southern New England. They were also introduced to the concept that stylistic differences in artifacts may reflect technological and functional changes over time. Anthony presented a knapping demonstration, followed by the students trying their hand at it.

The students also showed us and discussed the soapstone carvings they were undertaking.
